The room numbers
Welcome to the room numbers guideline.
We want to guide the MEININGER guests with clear, simple and friendly signage that enhances their experience, ensuring easy navigation and a welcoming atmosphere throughout their stay.
1. Design according to brand standards
Brand colors

Hero color & navy blue
This is the main color of the company, used for the official logos. In the hotel interior signage should be used as color accent.
Navy blue is a core element of the brand color palette, serving as a unifying tone that bridges the other colors. It can be used for the room numbers.
Brand typography
Our brand font is easy to use. It should be accessible and flexible as well as representing our brand identity and core attributes.
For the the room numbers signage, we use one weight of Nort: NORT BOLD
2. Technical aspects
Composition and measurements
Composition and measurements
MEININGER‘s wayfinding signs are created from a base unit which is a 12 x 12 cm square. By taking 2 squares and putting them side by side we create the new base for the room numbers‘ signage.
Room numbers with a background of two colors
A 24 x 12 cm rectangle in which the numbers are written, according to the measurements shown here. The room numbers will always consist of 3 digits. The first one corresponds to the floor and the other two to the number of the room.
The numbers will have a size of 6 cm height.
Room numbers with one color background
Use a 20 x 12 cm rectangle for this room numbers. Centred the numbers with a height of 6 cm.
Design options
There are three different ways a room number can be designed, either with one color on the background, two colors or an image, as seen on the examples on the right.
When designing a room number sign with only one color on the background, the measurements must adjust to not leave too much space around the sides, making the rectangle 20 x 12 cm. This measurements only apply when the background is only one color.
If the sign has two colors or an image on the background, the size is, as mentioned on the previous slide, 24 x 12.
Also, the typography must not be either black or white, you can experiment with different colors, but keeping in mind the legibility.
Choosing the right colors
Choosing the right colors
The colors used for the room number signage should be according to the interior design theme of the hotel, making it look cohesive and part of the same artwork. When choosing to have a bi-color background each color must be a 12 x 12cm square, keeping the design in the same line as the wayfinding system.
Here are some examples of how some numbers could apply to the aesthetics of the existing interior design.
Materials
Materials
There are several options for the creation of the room numbers.
We recommend Aludibond printed, Aludibond printed (background) with Plexiglass (numbers) or plexiglass printed signs
Aludibond printed
Just one plaque of aludibond with the background color or image and the number printed on it.
Aludibond printed (background) and Plexiglass elements glued on it (numbers)
Consisting of a plaque of aludibond with the background design printed on it and the room number laser-cut in plexiglass and then glued on the aludibond.
Printed Plexiglass room numbers
Consisting of a plaque of plexiglass, printed with the colors and numbers on it
Legibility and inclusion
As a part of MEININGER‘s core values, we want every guest fo feel welcome and included. That‘s why we also want to add another layer to the signage by writting the number in braille at the bottom right corner. That could be added as a transparent 3D sticker, like in the image seen here.
Requirements for installation
Requirements for installation
When looking for an installation method for these pieces of signage, some items should be taken into consideration.
The signage piece should be mounted on the wall with screws (not glued) and must be strong enough to withstand the test of time and the high-traffic environment of a hotel.
Nevertheless, it should also be designed in a way that allows easy disassembly by staff in case modifications are needed in the future.
